Albatross

2025
Traditional lands of the Quandamooka people

Albatross is a complete reimagining of a 30-year-old beachfront apartment for our returning clients. The project reprograms a unique three-storey apartment (house) into a contemporary, functional family beachfront home, strengthening its connection to the immediately adjacent Palm Beach.

A modern Mediterranean sensibility is constructed through a palette of blonde, tactile and warm materials, combining micro-plasters, oak timber and natural stone, punctuated by moments of colour through tiles by Artedomus. The spaces respond playfully to the carefully negotiated existing conditions, initiating ideas such as the “ceiling avocados”, glass shower walls within the main bedroom, glass bridges and a curated series of skylights that flood internal spaces with light and joy.

Exquisitely built by M2, with joinery by Lawrie Cabinet Making, Albatross reflects a high level of client trust and faith in the process, as well as ongoing and genuine collaboration with all involved. A difficult and complex undertaking, but one with a result that more than justifies the effort.
